The most recent in the IIMPact Singapore Signature Series of Business Events, IIMPact 2009, held on Saturday 18th April 2009 in Singapore, was a resounding success. The event saw an unprecedented level of attendance – over 600 people - and featured scintillating speeches by the Guest of Honour Hon. Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, and H.E. the Indian High Commissioner, Dr. S. Jaishankar; thought-provoking comments by the distinguished panel of judges; and interesting business plans.
The event was the grand finale of the IIMPact Business Plan Challenge 2009 based on the theme “Innovative Business Ideas for Sustainable Development... The Road Ahead” - a business plan competition for MBA students from leading business schools in the Asia-Pacific region. IIMPact 2009 was presented by the IIM Alumni Associations in Singapore along with Platinum Sponsor for the second year in succession, Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH).
The Event
The glittering function saw the who’s who of the Singapore business community gather at the Raffles City Convention Centre for an exciting and illuminating evening of presentations of bright ideas spanning environmental, social and socio-economic issues. The gathering of over 600 guests included Singapore-based and visiting IIM alumni, senior corporate managers, representatives of several associations including SICCI and SINDA and representatives from government departments including Strategic Partner, Contact Singapore.
The members of the panel of judges were Ms. Chong Siak Ching, President and CEO, Ascendas; Mr. Ko Kheng Hwa, CEO Sustainable Development and Living Business Division, Keppel Corporation; Mr. Ravi Thakran, Group President - South Asia, SEA and Middle East, LVMH; Dr. Jens Lottner, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Co.; Mr. Piyush Gupta, CEO, SE Asia Pacific, Citigroup; Ms. Poh Mui Hoon, CEO, NETS.
Contact Singapore was the Strategic Partner for IIMPact 2009 and Optimum Solutions was the Silver Sponsor. The event was supported by SICCI, Table Sponsors Natsteel-TCS and RBS Coutts and advertising sponsors Symantec and Global Indian International School.
Top honours went to a team from IIM Bangalore which presented Dist Re, a case on distribution networks in rural/semi-urban India, centering on empowerment of distribution players through micro-finance and promotion of small entrepreneurs. The second prize went to the team from IIM Lucknow for Eco’llege, a case on providing comprehensive ecological solutions to the education sector. The third finalist was a team from AIT, Bangkok which presented a case on organic farming solutions for poor rural farming communities of North Eastern Thailand.
The evening ended with a sumptuous buffet spread which was enjoyed by all the guests and which provided food for the palate as well as ample opportunity for the gathered guests to network. |
